Kiriteshwari village in West Bengal's Murshidabad district has been picked as the country's best tourism village by the Centre. West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday.

She added that the village beat 795 applications received from thirty-one states and Union Territories to take the honour.

Mamata Banerjee’s Successful Foreign Tour: Returns to Kolkata with Investment Prospects for Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee returned to Kolkata after a 12-day tour of Spain and the UAE, marking it as a "very successful" mission to attract investments for the state. She expressed her happiness and satisfaction, stating it was the most fruitful tour in her life, highlighting the major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the trip. The meetings were organized by FICCI and the Indian Chamber of Commerce. The delegation

included Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi, industrialists, and representatives from prominent football clubs. The tour aimed to boost investments in West Bengal before the Bengal Global Business Summit in November. Notably, an MoU with La Liga to establish a football academy in the state was signed in Spain, and former cricket captain Sourav Ganguly joined the delegation in Madrid. In Dubai, Banerjee met with officials of Lulu Group International and UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi.

Dengue Cases Surge in Kolkata: Over 1,000 New Infections in 10 Days

In the past 10 days, West Bengal's, Kolkata, has seen a concerning surge in Dengue virus cases, with 1,012 new infections reported. According to the latest data available from news agency IANS, Kolkata had recorded 3,803 fresh Dengue cases as of September 22, a stark rise from the 2,790 cases reported on September 12. The total number of reported Dengue cases in the state has now exceeded 29,000. The situation is equally alarming in the neighbouring North 24 Parganas district, where Dengue cases have also risen significantly. Deputy Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (MC), Atin Ghosh, attributed the increase in cases this year to a higher number of tests being conducted compared to previous years.
