NSG Launches India's First Counter-Terrorism SOP to boost Security
The National Security Guard (NSG) has launched India's first-ever Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to combat terrorism. This new guideline aims to ensure an effective response to terrorist incidents across the country. The SOP provides a clear plan for NSG commandos to follow during counter-terrorism operations, which include:
1. Gathering information: NSG commandos will collect and analyze information to anticipate potential terror threats.
2. Assessing situations: They will quickly assess situations to make informed decisions and minimize risks.
3. Working together: The SOP ensures that NSG commandos work with other agencies, such as local police and intelligence agencies, to respond to terrorist incidents effectively.
The main goal of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is to improve India's ability to fight terrorism. Firstly, it aims to respond quickly, which will help NSG commandos respond to terror incidents effectively. Secondly, it will ensure that different agencies work together coherently to tackle terror threats. Also, the SOP focuses on situational awareness which will help minimize the risk to NSG commandos and civilians during counter-terrorism operations.
Bengaluru Crowd Crash at IPL Victory Parade
RCB was celebrating their maiden IPL title win with a public victory parade at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has a capacity of 35,000. However, the actual number of attendees far exceeded expectations, with estimates ranging from 200,000 to 300,000 people. The massive crowd led to chaos and a near-stampede condition. Police resorted to lathi charges to control the surging crowd, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to prevent the tragedy. There was confusion among fans due to conflicting announcements about the parade timing and free passes. The Bengaluru traffic police initially announced that there would be no victory parade, but RCB later posted on social media that a parade would indeed be held.
The incident resulted in 11 deaths, with several others hospitalized. Emergency services were rushed to the scene, and the state government ordered a full inquiry into the incident. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed sorrow over the incident, acknowledging poor coordination and an overwhelming turnout as possible causes. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other officials offered condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
