On August 4th, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Kolkata's Behala area where a 6-year-old schoolboy was fatally hit by a truck at around 6:30 am near Behala Chowrasta.

The boy was with his father, who also sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at SSKM Hospital. The incident sparked outrage among parents and locals due to perceived inadequate law enforcement and policing at the major road intersection in the southern part of the city.

The police used baton charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd, causing injuries to some officers, including the Kolkata Police Joint CP (Traffic). West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, sought a report on the incident from Vineet Goyal, the Kolkata Police Commissioner.
