India-Pakistan face-off reignites amid Asia Cup 2025. The Pahalgam terror attack and the retaliation of India’s OP Sindoor has taken public sentiment far beyond cricket. Right after the Pahalgam attack, there was a louder call for the boycott of Pakistan on every possible ground. We have seen multiple actions such as frizzing the Indus water treaty, and closing all the borders and trades, Indian citizens called to boycott the Pakistani payers too. However, the Indian Sports Ministry refrained from stating such; rather, it cleared its stance on sports with a broader diplomatic approach by saying that, as far as bilateral sports events in each other's country are concerned, Indian teams will not participate in any competition in Pakistan.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs also clarified that India will continue to host and participate in multilateral tournaments, including events in Pakistan, positioning India as a global sports hub. As the tournament is set for 9th September this year, India and Pakistan can possibly face each other three times if they both advance to the Finals. In this due diplomacy, Gavaskar took a step forward and said, “If the government has taken a call, I don’t see how the players can be criticized. They are contracted professionals who simply follow instructions. If the government says play, they play. If the government says no, the BCCI will act accordingly”.
