How To Kill Men And Get Away With It by Katy Brent is one graphic psychological thriller. One of the few books we find on Women-in-Crime, Brent takes us inside the mind of serial killer, Kitty Collins.

“Maybe disemboweling a sex offender is what I need to cure this particular hangover.” – Katy     Brent| How To Kill Men And Get Away With It

The protagonist of the story, Kitty Collins, is a famous Instagram influencer who hates her job as much as she loves her luxurious lifestyle only this job could afford.

Kitty’s daily routine comprised of brunches, gossiping, dinner meetings at fancy places, and endorsing different brands. Well, until, Kitty got a little taste of blood.

Returning from a night club one night, she is followed by a man who truly believes he is owed something just cause he bought her a drink and in her fight to get away, she ends up accidentally killing him.

Our protagonist is quite open about the fact that it is not the killing that upset her but the mess she would be in, if she got caught. When, however, she realizes that she got away with it, Kitty accepts maybe a side-hobby of reliving the world of entitled men wouldn’t be such a bad idea. After all, she was quite actually “killing it”. That is until one day, she messes up big time.

Your female Dexter, a homicidal with two jobs, the book “How To Kill Men And Get Away With It” didn’t meet my expectations. The plot was gripping and had a lot of potential but the characters lacked depth.

Kitty and her friends were shown to be very shallow. Kitty was a total hypocrite, who would take all the things she could from brands and continue to complain, about how these products are bad and shouldn’t exist.

Moving on to the actual plot of the book, the crime, a graphically elaborated gore-y murder was one of the best parts of the book. However, the escaping from the murder wasn’t as thoroughly thought out as the murder itself.

Any decent police officer could have easily caught on with her as she was present on all the places the murders happened and our Kitty might have been good at hiding a body but that particular skillset didn’t extend to her covering her tracks.

In all honesty, the name and cover of the book is the thing that attracted me into buying this book. The saying “Do not judge a book by its cover”, stands true somewhere as I entered in to the book with high expectations which was met to some extent.

The book was a one sit reading, where the what will happen next kept me turning the pages.

Trigger Warning: The book is one gore-y mess where the author went pages after pages describing the intricacies of the murder. So be safe!

The book was overall a 3.5/5 stars. A good book if you are in mood for some blood but not the best place to look for ideas on hiding that body in your basement!!

Wait, did I tell you our Kitty has a stalker?

Enjoy reading until next time.
