Life in a Hostel: A Journey of Lessons and Friendships
By Roshni Roy
Living in a university
hostel is a unique mix of freedom, routine. You wake up just a few minutes away
from your classes, the library, and labs, which is a huge bonus. My day usually
starts in a shared room, where learning to adjust with roommates and block
mates becomes part of daily life. Mornings are pretty relaxed for me since I
don’t have to deal with the stress of travelling like day scholars do. One gets
straight to the food court for breakfast and then to respective classes.
During weekdays, once lectures are done, I either crash for a short nap or dive into the pile of assignments. Places like 'Panda Junction' or the 'Canopy' are always crowded with students chatting, eating, or just hanging out. The food court gets repetitive with their healthy menu, but it is the go-to spot where the hostellers come together over meals and conversation.
Evenings
and nights are when hostel life really come alive. Once you sneak into the
Convention Centre for playing games like carrom or table tennis and the very
next moment, you're heading to Cafe Coffee Day for a late coffee fix. We’re
supposed to be back in our respective hostel buildings by 10:30 PM, and while
we do follow the rule, the night is far from over. Whether it's last-minute
study sessions or deep late-night talks with friends, we somehow make every
minute count.
